The Deal
Upon further investigation, I have found out that the proposed Villages at Grant's View development plan appears to be scrapped.
At the end of announcements at Cor Jesu Academy, the new principal relayed that there would be no 4 acres for Cor Jesu as originally planned in the deal with the developers. This was followed by the shrill shreiking of hundreds of teenage girls.
It would now appear that the developers never actually closed on the land and, for one reason or another, the entire deal is off. The girls at Cor Jesu were instructed to pray that the school can now have the opportunity to buy all the land they need directly from Andy Busch.
This now begs the question of whether or not the land will be for resale for any desperately needed new housiong stock. While I think Cor Jesu SHOULD benefit from the sale of the land, I think that the demand for new housing far outweighs the needs for 20 acres of a sprawling Catholic High School.

Many opportunities exist in the area for some good mixed-use development. Take the Schnuck's up the street via eminent domain and build something else there. They could argue the old store is "obsolete" to justify taking the store!
I know we need more housing n the region. Preferably 3 beds and 2 baths. But we also need green space.
This would be an ideal addition to the grants trail as a nature area. It could also be used as a camping/business park for the trail. Some bike rental places, stores catering to those who bike/hike and some resteraunts.
Witin this space some attached villas could easily fit.
A great opportunity for re-development lies at tower tee. The old pool is still there and a new development could go in retaining 9 holes of golf for public/resident use.
Then there is the land not in use by rogers middle school which is owned by the archdioces I believe.

Why would you suggest taking out a grocery store for housing? That doesn't make any sense.
Agree. No other grocery store in the immediate area? Let's tear down a recently remodeled store, build houses in its place and then make people drive to an older Schnucks at Gravois and Hampton? Maybe they should drive to Makensie Point or Ronnies & Lindbergh? Makes no sense. Don't even suggest the Save-A-Lot across the street as an alternative
I think urban review was using humor in his post related to all the eminent domain cases in the last few years. Local govts would "blight" areas that really weren't blighted only to replace them with the same mediocre development you find everywhere.
And if were all for keeping green spaces, then why is the metro area sprawling at a ridiculous rate? Why build the same cookie cutter homes out in the boonies of St Charles and Jefferson counties when there are dozens of fine and affordable homes in the city and county?
I think, and from experiences with those who have gone west, is "bigger", "better?" and "newer"
I also belief we are still experiencing various forms of white flight to these communities.
Sad to say as the world matures there are still those who equate what or who is different with being evil or dangerous.
And just because one goes west does not mean they are escaping the evils of the city.
My job takes me into all these communities and I see the worst of humanity as I do my job. In my career have I never experienced more disturbing and twisted behavior as I do in St Charles.
I would like to mention though what seems to be a new trend of people returning from these far flung areas. In our neighborhood in the Affton area we have new residents who moved back from Jeff CO and St Charles.
So, let the kind of people who move away fo the joy of city and inner ring life have St C etc.
